Audian Theater Transformation

This project was the first restaurant I have designed. It definitely created some challenges for me, working with a larger space and focusing on circulation paths. This was my first project working with a real client, which I really enjoyed. Working in a restaurant gave me some advantages to this project, especially knowing what works and what doesn't. This project was designed for an old movie theater in downtown Pullman. There was a gradual slope which the client wanted us to somehow level out. He also wanted us to keep the stage  and the screen so he could use them for movie nights or to play the Cougar games during the football season.
In order to work around the slope, we decided to have three separate levels in this space. The main floor would be open at all times and consisted of the kitchen, a bar, the restrooms and plenty of seating. The lower level was designed to be closed off when it was not a busy night, but could be opened up if there was a big game or a movie night. This level also had a bar and an abundance of booth seating. Upstairs was more for hanging out and relaxing. There are pool tables, additional seating and a VIP room.
Laying out the kitchen and deciding the square footage of it was also a challenge for me. It was hard knowing what goes into a commercial kitchen without having much knowledge of them. I think the layout of it turned out nice in the end though. This was also my first project that I used Revit for the entire thing. That itself presented a big challenge, but it helped me so much and I am now more confident with Revit. I am happy with how the renderings turned out with this project and I think it really portrays the space exactly how it was intended to be.
This project was designed around the idea of a "Third Place." Having a place where you can go and hang out and not feel like you have to leave was really important in this design process. After doing research on the local businesses around Pullman, I felt it was important to have a space where there are different options for  where you can sit. A few of the coffee shops had an upstairs with study tables where students could study and not be distracted. Having an upstairs in the design for the restaurant was something I felt was a necessity along with a variety of furniture and tables.
