My inspiration for designing the depot was one of the benches out front of the depot. It had curved lines as well as sharp curves and angles throughout. Tom Cramer is a Portland artist who creates wood relief paintings. His artwork ranges in sizes so he needs a gallery and studio that is suitable for varying artwork. In the gallery, the plan of the walls is taken directly from my parti and pattern that I created. The curving walls in the gallery help guide people's attention around the gallery. In an interview, Tom said he prefers dark over light and night over day and wanted his gallery to focus on the artwork itself. He wanted the lighting to be high quality, low lighting because it makes his artwork look best. In the gallery, I applied mostly gray to walls so it did not clash with the artwork. To liven up the gallery, I added color to the ends of the walls which added emphasis to each wall and guided people around the space. Tom wanted a studio where he could have a big storage space as well as the ability to vary his work-space throughout the year. He likes bigger studios during the summer and smaller studios during the winter to help with heating costs. I gave him a studio that had movable walls so he is able to vary how his studio is and the size. In the residence, it is designed around ADA and visual impairment guidelines for Tom's wife. The space is very simple and easy to navigate through. In the living room, I incorporated a rounded couch to go with my parti. There are pops of color and lots of contrast to make it easier with a visual impairment. Every window has curtains to avoid glare from the sun.
