DEL FRISCO'S
NEW YORK
We had late reservations around 10:30 pm at Del Frisco's in New York. It was 91 degrees and we had just watched Spiderman on Broadway. Four guys from Hawaii dressed pretty lousy for New York enter a very nice restaurant and approach the hostess. She smiles and asks for our name. Big smile and no attitude like I would expect. Treated us like VIP guests visiting her restaurant. Sweet way to start the evening and I told her that after we dined. We were seated at a table in the main dining room off the bar. There was a large stairway going up to two more levels above the bar. The place was packed with suits, businessmen and ladies dressed nicely. Here we are four dudes from Hawaii in jeans, golf shirts and bags of Spiderman t-shirts, programs and gifts. We stood out like hot dogs in a steak house. None the less the waiter approached our table and treated us like royalty. Think his name was Ken. This guy was the ultimate waiter. Professional, courteous and engaging. He could sell Cracker Jack as an appetizer and you would pay $50 for it. Just that good. After his first few descriptions of the menu, we told him that he was a superstar. Ordered everything he suggested and sat back for the ride. After a few minutes he brought the General Manager over to meet the "Hawaiian's". The GM was animated and full of energy. He told stories of singing at a wedding in Hawaii and sent us over a round of Pineapple shots on the house. Hung out a bit and told us that all the desserts were on the house. Wow...what a night in Gotham. Started with an unreal Caprise Salad followed by Crab Cakes that were 99% crab. Ordered the bone-in ribeye with froi gras. Holy shit. perfectly cooked steak with froi gras on top. This was one of the three best steaks of my life. #1 D.K. Paniolo Ribeye. #2 Emeril in New Orleans. #3 Del Frisco's New York. Loved the Lemon Cake too. Never would have ordered this but the GM sent it over. So creamy and delicious. Best frosting that was not chocolate. What a great meal and evening. Our waiter even went into the streets and negotiated a rate with cab driver to get us back to our hotel in New Jersey. What a great guy. Saved us big bucks. They say that this is one of the highest grossing restaurants in the country. I can see why. Everything was top notch. Food, ambiance and service. Great!
